EMOM

Every Minute On the Minute

A timing format where you start a set piece of work at the top of every minute.

What it means in a class

In an EMOM, the clock beeps every 60 seconds and that's your start gun. You do the prescribed work, then rest for whatever's left of the minute before the next one begins. Work faster, rest longer.

EMOMs are brilliant for building skill and consistency because the rest is built in. They're often used for technique-heavy movements — cleans, pull-ups, double unders — where quality matters more than a flat-out sprint.

You may also see E2MOM (every two minutes) or an alternating EMOM, where odd minutes are one movement and even minutes are another.

On the whiteboard

EMOM 10: odd minutes 12 calorie row, even minutes 10 burpees.
